The FAPERJ Project is an initiative designed to bring innovative design solutions for
services and products that improve human interactions within the Instituto Refazer ecosystem.
We seek to identify the critical aspects of this care, ensuring it is more humanized and efficient, and developing interaction journeys that highlight key and sensitive points.
Additionally, the project focuses on promoting play—an essential activity for children’s development in language, skills, and social interaction. Using field research methods, interviews with caregivers, and consultations with Health and Education professionals, we aim to understand the preferences and limitations of the children we support.
Based on this data, we are designing an innovative assistive technology—a product that will facilitate play for these children, promoting a more inclusive and transformative experience. Throughout this process, we also seek to understand how Refazer’s organizational purpose is perceived and developed by different areas, departments, and stakeholders, ensuring that everyone is aligned with the mission of Instituto Refazer.

“Among the children and adolescents supported by Instituto Refazer, many have mobility and cognitive challenges such as microcephaly, hydrocephalus, and cerebral palsy. Despite their limitations, they love to play with friends and family. Refazer offers a play area with toys, games, stuffed animals, coloring books and storybooks donated by the community. However, these materials are not always suited to their specific needs, which creates barriers to play.”
“The goal is to gain a comprehensive understanding of Refazer’s internal service culture — identifying the team’s pains, motivations, and desires. The project also seeks to understand the needs and expectations of families and children, mapping critical points that affect their interactions with staff and volunteers. We are designing user journeys that highlight important service touchpoints. Finally, we’re assessing how Refazer’s purpose is interpreted and expressed across departments and stakeholders.”
Utilizando métodos de pesquisa de campo, entrevistas com responsáveis e consultas a profissionais da Saúde e Educação, buscamos entender as preferências e limitações das crianças.
Com esses dados, estamos projetando um produto que facilite o brincar para essas crianças.
